The web site advertises a much deeper healing experience than was provided. Not worth the money spent. The staff was caring and genuine in their compassion. However the quality of addiction care was substandard. The cost for my insurance was $49,200 for 30 days. The treatment provided was not worth a fraction of that. They provided 2 hours a week of one-on-one therapy & one 2 hr group therapy session per week. The rest of the time was spent sitting around doing absolutely nothing but going to AA/NA meetings with no deep work in the area of addiction. There was a little holistic care was provided which was nice and the food provided was healthy & well balanced.

HIR has a deeply committed, genuine staff that provides a safe space to struggle through rehabilitation. There are many modalities offered to help heal the many issues that revolve around addiction. The organization feels well managed, professional and receptive to patient engagement. The only minus is that this program is heavily reliant on AA meetings and the AA program.

What an eye opening experience. Hawaii Island Recovery gave me the tools to re-discover myself, free from substance abuse. It is a true 12 step program with a focus on both group and individual therapy, while simultaneously providing clients the opportunity to experience the outdoors and unconventional therapy such as equine and dolphin therapy. For me it was a necessary process in my steps to recovery. Being so close to the outdoors yet never far from people who cared greatly about me and my recovery was a unique experience for which I am grateful. Anyone considering treatment options in an unconventional setting should consider this as an option.

I'm leaving a review as someone who knows the founder of this program in the professional capacity. I can vouch for the fact that people who started and operate this program come from a place of integrity, compassion and empathy. There is no doubt in professionalism, ethics and exceptional level of dedication. As someone who runs a holistic addiction rehabilitation program, I trust the owners and management of this program to make referrals and to recommend this program to my clients and their families. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly, if you would like to verify that I'm a real person and this opinion is my independent conclusion. Warmly, Danesh Oleshko, LLM

I would encourage those looking into a treatment program for a family member to consider HIR. Our 24 year old was struggle with alcohol and it was tearing our family apart. Jimmy was such a great support system and continues to be a huge piece of our sonʻs journey. This was not easy for our son or for us as a family, however I can say that HIR saved our sonʻs life. I can not begin to say enough good things, but he understand that this is a lifelong endeavor. Again, please know that there is help our there and HIR without a doubt is worth the time to check out.

About Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Kailua-Kona is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaii County, Hawaii, United States. It’s most commonly referred to simply as Kona (a name it shares with the district to which it belongs), but also as Kona Town, and occasionally as Kailua (a name it shares with a community on the windward side of Oʻahu), thus its less frequent use. Kailua-Kona is the second-largest settlement on the island of Hawaii (after Hilo) and the largest on the island's west side, where it is the center of commerce and the tourist industry. Kailua-Kona is served by Kona International Airport, just to the north in the adjacent CDP of Kalaoa. The population was 19,713 at the 2020 census, up from 11,975 at the 2010 census. Kailua-Kona was the closest major settlement to the epicenter of the 2006 Kiholo Bay earthquake. Kailua-Kona's boundaries were altered significantly for the 2020 census. The eastern portion of Kailua-Kona became part of the neighboring Holualoa CDP, while the western ... Read More

What is a Dispensary?

A dispensary is a store that sells special items or dispenses the specialized items. Cannabis or marijuana dispensariers started in the US some time in the early 1990’s when Dennis Peron opend the San Francisro Cannbis Buyers Club. Back then the cannabis dispensary faced a ton of hardships, but Dennis, his team and dream helped pave the future for all future recreational and medical cannabis dispensaries. In 2014 the first recreational dispensary, 3D Cannabis opened it’s doors in Colorado. As of 4-1-19 33 states have medical dispensaries and 10 states have recreational dispensaries.

At a dispnsary one will find many differnt kinds of cannabis flowers (buds) and concentrates, edibles along with smoking untensils, but have a limited selection compared to online shops like Elev8 Glass Gallery. The dispensary also will have what is called a budtender to help you find what you are looking for. If you need help with cannabis info Elev8 Presents is a good resource.

What is the difference between a medical or recreational dispensary?

In realtiy medical and recreational dispensaries are the same thing. This all comes down to the states laws on cannabis. We feel cannabis is just like alcohol and medical will happen first and then recreational will follow, and so far history is showing this. Dispensaries are an excellent place for patients and recreational smokers alike to find the cannabis that best suits their needs!
